Köln – letzte Station unserer Rundreise

Nach Amsterdam hatte ich die Befürchtung, es könne nun nicht mehr wirklich aufregend werden, denn schliesslich hatten wir zuvor schon so viel gesehen, bestaunt, bewundert, fotografiert und hier im Blog beschrieben und verewigt.

Dazu kam, dass unsere Aufnahmefähigkeit nach elf Tagen auch an ihre Grenzen stiess: Waren nach 5 Ländern, 12 Städten, 5 Bussen wegen unberechtigten Parkens und etlichen Restaurantbesuchen und Picknicks später überhaupt noch Platz und Kraft vorhanden, sich erneut auf Neues einzulassen?

Wir standen gegen sieben Uhr auf, bereiteten uns zur Letzten Visite vor, nahmen unser Frühstück in der „Krone“ ein und verliessen gegen neun Uhr unsere Unterkunft in Richtung Stadtzentrum Köln.

Im Gegensatz zu anderen Städten war das Fahren hier geradezu ein Vergnügen, obwohl sich seit dieser Reise meine Ansichten zum Thema „Autofahren in Deutschland“ verändert haben: Nirgendwo fuhr man rücksichtsloser und aggressiver als in Deutschland. Kein Vergleich mit den Dänen und Holländern, die ihr Fahrzeug stets freundlich und entspannt durch den noch so dichten Verkehr steuerten.

 

Von unserem Parkplatz aus gingen wir keine fünf Minuten, bis uns der Anblick des Doms in seinen Bann zog! Das muss man einmal in seinem Leben gesehen haben.

Doch wir gingen noch weiter, nämlich auf die Aussichtsplattform. Nach mehr als 500 Stufen (533 um genau zu sein) wird der Besucher durch grandiose Ausblicke über die Stadt und die sie umgebenden Land- und Stadtschaften belohnt. Fotos lassen dies wie meistens nur erahnen.

Anschliessend kurzer Abstecher zur Hohenzollern-Brücke mit ihren geschätzten 300‘000 oder mehr Liebes-Schlössern! Das dürften dann weit mehr als 100 Tonnen Metall sein.

Danach folgt das Pflichtprogramm: Besuch des hiesigen Hardrock Cafés, fast schon obligater Kauf eines T-Shirts. Was ist eigentlich so besonders an diesen?

Kurzer Spaziergang durch die Altstadt mit ihren Geschäften…die geschlossen waren!

Und dann gibt es zumindest bei mir so etwas wie Wehmut. Schon in Amsterdam und vor allem in Antwerpen – auch eine Perle! – war es spürbar, das Ende der Reise, das unaufhaltsam näher kam, je mehr Kilometer wir fuhren. Aber alle schönen Dinge gehen einmal zu Ende!

Letzte Einkäufe an einer Köllner Tankstelle, wo meine Frau nahezu alles Essbare aufkaufte, ein letztes Mal günstig tanken und einen doppelten Espresso für den Chauffeur. Und wir sassen im Auto auf der mit gut 620 Kilometern zweit längsten Strecke. Irgendwann zwischen 19 und 20 Uhr waren wir wieder zu Hause, nach insgesamt über 5‘400 gefahrenen Kilometern. Einfach Geil!
